چکیده

In this paper, we address the scheduling problem with rejection in which we can choose a subset of jobs to process. Choosing not to process any job incurs a corresponding penalty. We consider the following problem for the first time: scheduling with rejection to minimize the total weighted completion time with the constraint of total penalties on identical parallel machines, where the number of identical parallel machines is constant. We show that it is NP-hard and design a pseudo-polynomial time algorithm as well as an FPTAS through dynamic programming.

An Iterated Greedy Algorithm for Flexible Flow Lines with Sequence Dependent Setup Times to Minimize Total Weighted Completion Time

This paper explores the flexile flow lines where setup times are sequence- dependent. The optimization criterion is the minimization of total weighted completion time. We propose an iterated greedy algorithm (IGA) to tackle the problem. An experimental evaluation is conducted to evaluate the proposed algorithm and, then, the obtained results of IGA are compared against those of some other exist...

Scheduling Hemodialysis Patients with Patient Preferences

Nowadays, outpatient providers are struggling to reduce the current costs and improve the service quality. A part of the outpatient service provider is a hemodialysis department with expensive supplies and equipment. Therefore, in the present paper, the scheduling of hemodialysis patients with their preferences has been studied. The aim of scheduling hemodialysis patients in this study is to mi...

A Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm for a Possibilistic Open Shop Problem to Minimize Weighted Mean Tardiness and Weighted Mean Completion Times

We consider an open shop scheduling problem. At first, a bi-objective possibilistic mixed-integer programming formulation is developed. The inherent uncertainty in processing times and due dates as fuzzy parameters, machine-dependent setup times and removal times are the special features of this model. The considered bi-objectives are to minimize the weighted mean tardiness and weighted mean co...

Fuzzy Programming for Parallel Machines Scheduling: Minimizing Weighted Tardiness/Earliness and Flow Time through Genetic Algorithm

Appropriate scheduling and sequencing of tasks on machines is one of the basic and significant problems that a shop or a factory manager encounters; this is why in recent decades extensive studies have been done on scheduling issues. One type of scheduling problems is just-in-time (JIT) scheduling and in this area, motivated by JIT manufacturing, this study investigates a mathematical model for...

A Novel B and B Algorithm for a Unrelated Parallel Machine Scheduling Problem to Minimize the Total Weighted Tardiness

This paper presents a scheduling problem with unrelated parallel machines and sequencedependent setup times that minimizes the total weighted tardiness. A new branch-and-bound (B and B) algorithm is designed incorporating the lower and upper bounding schemes and several dominance properties. The lower and upper bounds are derived through an assignment problem and the composite dispatching rule ...
